An upgrade of the popular Projecta PS800P jumpstarter has added some great new practical operating and safety features to make it even more of a “godsend” when your car battery decides to play up and has just gone on sale in New Zealand.
Jumpstarters have become a particularly important stand-by for motorists who have automatic cars that cannot be bump-started. They can be kept in the boot in case of emergencies and can also power items such as portable fridges, lights and other devices away from the car for picnics, camping and even boating – they still require occasional charging to maintain their power.
In the updated model, a higher quality battery with an improved CCA rating has been incorporated into the jumpstarter to improve cranking performance. Longer jumper leads of 1.2 metres have also been added, allowing the jumpstarter to be placed on the ground during starting, rather than on the vehicle’s engine or guard.
Additionally, the updated 12-volt, 900-amp PS800P now has a reverse connection alarm built-in which, when incorrectly connected, will activate an alarm as well as an LED warning light – a feature that will save damage to under-bonnet electric components.
The 240-volt re-charging system has been improved with the introduction of an automatic system allowing the jumpstarter to be charged indefinitely without fear of overcharging.
Surge protection is now included for increased operator safety plus additional protection of the vehicle’s electrics. Projecta’s handy cigarette lighter socket, as used in the previous model for powering 12Volt DC appliances, has been retained.
It’s even had a styling makeover, to improve the looks, storage of jump leads and functionality.
“The enhancements to the PS800P have improved the performance and functionality to the point where it is now one of the most useful jumpstarters on the market,” according to Russell Miller of NARVA New Zealand, which distributes Projecta battery accessories in this country.
The new Projecta PS800P Jumpstarter is now available from leading automotive outlets throughout New Zealand and has a recommended retail price of $186.
