Life has just got a little harder for thieves looking to make off with boats, trucks, contracting equipment, camper vans and agricultural/horticulture machines fitted with multi-battery systems.

That’s because automotive lighting and electrics specialist NARVA has developed a new rotary battery switch that features a key lock to deter thieves. It is one of two new high current rotary battery master switches now being released by NARVA onto the New Zealand market.

These robust switches are designed for use in 6 – 36 Volt applications with a 500AMP peak and continuous load rating of 310AMPS at 12 Volt. In 24 volt applications they have a 250AMP peak and 155AMP continuous load rating, which places them amongst the best performers available.

Ideal for heavy duty automotive, commercial, ag/hort, contracting and marine applications these surface-mounted switches each have four positions making them suitable for any multiple battery system. They are especially suited to applications where one battery is used for starting and the other is used for auxiliary power, such as on boats and camper vans; where a reserve battery is used; or on multiple engine boats. The selector switch can be set to use the first or second battery only or both batteries simultaneously.

Of the two NARVA switch part numbers 61090 and 61094 offered, the latter features the key lock to provide protection against the unauthorised use or theft of vehicles, plant, machinery or boat. This same switch also features additional terminals for the alternator field disconnect (AFD) function to protect the alternator in the event the switch is turned to the ‘OFF’ position whist the engine is running.
